Single Regeneration Budget

The Single Regeneration Budget has been around for some time now, but there have been a number of different 'rounds'.

The Engage Partnership only had responsibility for funds coming from the 5th and 6th round of this fund from the Regional Development Agency. However, while SRB6 funding was a national initiative, the proportion allocated to the Engage Partnership to distribute was only for use within West Cornwall.

More specifically, the areas covered were the whole of the Penwith District, the whole of the Kerrier District and the priority Penwerris Ward in the Carrick District.

After assessing the needs of the West Cornwall area, the SRB round 5 funds were allocated to funding projects that worked with young people aged between 14 and 25 years.

The partnership called this ENGAGE YOUNG PEOPLE.

In total, 17 large projects were funded by SRB5 through Engage West Cornwall. Round 5 closed in September 2003 but funding continued through round 6.

we called the SRB6 round of funding ENGAGE NEIGHBOURHOODS.

The strategic objectives of the SRB6 Engage Neighbourhoods
programme were

  • To enhance the employment prospects, education and skills of local people.
  • To address social exclusion and enhance opportunities for the disadvantaged.
  • To improve housing conditions for local people through physical improvement, better maintenance, improved management and greater choice and diversity.

Areas of West Cornwall were designated as being of high, medium and low priority for SRB6 funding.  The Engage Neighbourhoods Programme Co-ordinator's role was to facilitate the development of projects involving

  • Deprived neighbourhoods
  • Excluded individuals and families
  • Infrastructure improvements
  • Groups seeking ways to increase community involvement
  • Individuals with skills needs

Administration of the SRB funds distributed by Engage West Cornwall was carried out by Cornwall Regeneration, while Kerrier District Council was the Accountable Body responsible for the finances of the programmes.

With effect from 26th October 2004 the Engage Partnership merged with the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund Group to establish the West Cornwall Funding Group - which now manages both the Single Regeneration Programme and the Neighbourhood Renewal Programme.  This provides a more direct approach to funding for the West Cornwall area.   For further information on the West Cornwall Funding Group visit www.wctogether.info
